7 Cult-Favorite Skincare Products (Are They Worth The Hype?)
I'm a complete sucker for trying new skincare products, so even though I absolutely adore the Paula's Choice range that I've used religiously for almost a year, I've been sneaking in a few new numbers into my skincare routine these last few months. Most of these are award-winning (and/or much raved about) skincare products that have garnered cult-like followings. Not one to miss out on all the excitement, I've been trying out a few of these cult-favorites for myself, to see if they really ARE worth the hysteria (and, in some cases, the jaw-dropping price tags!)
Here are my honest thoughts on some of the most talked about, most written about, and most gushed about skincare products on the market today.
I was in the market for a gentle cleanser to use in the morning, and thought I'd give this one from Glossier a whirl (after reading about it on every freakin' beauty blog out there.) It really is a lovely cleanser to use in the morning, but I wouldn't recommend it for using in the evening to wash the day off your face, because it doesn't completely remove makeup. It's super gentle and leaves my sensitive skin feeling smooth, clean and soft. The price isn't bad and I would definitely buy it again. It IS worth the hype, and definitely worth a try!

This must be one of the most talked about skincare products of the past year, so I naturally had to try this one for myself. It is a very lightweight "mask" containing AHA/BHA that ever so gently gives your skin a mini facial when you use it. OH MY GOSH! This product absolutely blew me away, and I totally understand why it has created such a buzz in the beauty world. I only use it once a week, and it has improved my skin tone so much! The day after I use it, my skin is more radiant, and fine lines less noticeable. If you've been thinking about trying it, I highly recommend you bite the bullet and purchase it. It's a complete dream and 100% worth the hype! I know it's pricey, but because I only use it once a week, it's going to last quite a few months.
Buy: Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ ($80)
I know, I know! The Clarisonic cleansing system is hardly anything new and has been on the skincare scene for many years. Even though I've had the original Clarisonic Mia since its release (what was it, six years ago!?), I've kind of forgotten about it for the past couple of years and let it gather dust under my bathroom sink. But, I recently rediscovered its magic when I felt that my skin was really suffering in Taipei's humidity mixed with pollution. I charged it, put on a fresh new brush head, and have been loving it again the past few months. Nothing cleanses the dirt, makeup and pollution off my face like this baby! I use the "Normal" brush twice a week, and I swear that it's made my skin smoother and have significantly reduced the size of my pores. This is a great product and I highly recommend it!
Buy: Clarisonic Mia 2 Cleansing System ($120)
This product has won so many beauty awards and accolades, it's basically the Meryl Streep of face masks. It's one of those products that you call your sister and mother and best friend about after just one use. This is by far THE BEST clearing mask I've ever used, and it does exactly everything it promises; it soothes acne and blemishes, it removes oil and dirt, and it leaves your skin as clean as Monica Gellar's apartment. I apply this mask twice a week, and it's so satisfying washing it off and immediately seeing the difference it made. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!
Buy: GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment ($48)
This product is not a cult-favorite per se (well, not yet!) but the brand, Drunk Elephant, has made a huge splash in skincare since its fairly recent release. I've been using a few of their products the past couple of months, and I fell in love with this lightweight, yet potent, moisturizer. I use this protein-packed potion as my day cream, and it has visibly improved the texture and firmness of my skin. It melts away after application, nourishing and moisturizing my skin, but not making it feel greasy. I adore this cream and find it perfect for summer. Definitely worth the splurge, as a little goes a long way and the 50ml container will last for quite a few months. Give it a whirl!
Buy: Drunk Elephant Protini™ Polypeptide Cream ($68)
If you've never heard of a jade roller before, let me get you up to speed; it is a skincare tool that you roll on your face to de-puff the skin. Not only that, it claims to also minimizes dark circles and help with lymphatic drainage. I keep mine in the refrigerator so that it's extra cooling when I use it. I know, it might seem a bit "extra", but it's a very calming and relaxing ritual and I try to incorporate it into my evening skincare routine about twice a week. I think this is such a nice tool to elevate your skincare routine, and to treat yourself with once in a while.

Last, but definitely not least, is this "super-powered serum" by Vintner's Daughter. It's their one and only product, and they have perfected this botanical serum to perform actual miracles on your face. The price is outrageous, I know, but after reading positive, glowing review upon positive glowing review, I just couldn't help myself. Luckily I had a discount code, so I didn't pay full price, and I also realized that a teeny tiny little goes a really long way, and that I'll be able to use this serum for months to come. So, is it worth the hype? I don't even want to tell you, because I know you are going to want to try it and I know the price is crazy. But yes, a thousand times yes, it is a wonder potion. Made up of 22 plant-derived oils and extracts, this luxurious serum delivers optimum nutrition to your skin. If you've been on the fence about this one, allow me to gently pull you over to my side; buy it, your skin will LOVE you!
