Jie Genge 桔梗三明治 | Taipei Restaurant
As spring is drawing nearer and nearer, we've been on an unofficial hunt to find more spots in Taipei that offers al fresco dining. There's just something so cheerful about eating outside. (Maybe because it somehow feels like a picnic, minus the ants and other creepy crawlies possibly joining in on your meal..!?). It's harder than you think to find restaurants and cafes that offer outdoor seating in Taipei. Is it because of the unbearable humidity in the summer months? Who knows. But they are out there, and we are on a mission to find them!
I spotted Jie Genge 桔梗三明治 on Instagram a while back, and made a note of their patio with outdoor seating. When we recently had some decent weather, Tieneke and I jumped at the chance to reserve a table outside for brunch, and see what this place is all about.
As you can see, there are quite a few tables available outside. Beautiful plants and flowers decorate the otherwise plain white walls, and there is a cover over the patio area. They also offer indoor seating, including a loft area with extra tables. The place was packed when we arrived there around 12:30pm on a Saturday, so it's best to make a reservation in advance.
Okay, so enough raving about the fact that they have outdoor seating. Let's get to the food. Jie Genge 桔梗三明治 specializes in sandwiches. They also offer other brunch items and a salad. There are plenty of drink options, including smoothies, coffees, teas, juices, milkshakes and sodas. I decided to go for the Fried Soft Shell Crab sandwich, with Cat Fish, Egg and Spicy Mayonnaise. Tieneke got the Eggplant with Caramelized Onion Cream Cheese, Tomato Sauce, Tapenade and Egg sandwich. We also ordered a Dragon Fruit and Chia Seed smoothie and a Fruit smoothie. (We only realized after our order came out, that each smoothie order automatically comes in two glasses, so we ended up with four glasses of smoothie. Just keep that in mind when you order!). Below you can see their entire menu.

We really loved the smoothies; not only were they presented beautifully, both of them were sweet and delicious. (And they are definitely very generous with the fruit toppings!) We also liked our sandwiches, which totally hit the spot! (We were ravenous at that point in the day!) Being able to eat outside on the sunny patio really made the meal extra enjoyable.
If you are also on the lookout for some outdoor dining spots, Jie Genge 桔梗三明治 is worth checking out. Make sure you tell them you want a table outside when making your reservation. And definitely order one of the smoothies, it's refreshing and delicious!
